UCD Post-doctoral Researcher Level 1 or 2, UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science, Temporary 18-month

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Researcher Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science.

The Chromatin Mechanisms in Disease laboratory (https://conwaychromatinlab.com/) at University College Dublin, led by Dr. Eric Conway, are recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to work on understanding the mechanisms through which the repressive histone modification H2AK119ub1 is dysregulated in disease. This position will be funded through a Wellcome Trust award.

Histone H2A lysine 119 mono-ubiquitination (H2AK119ub1) is a repressive histone modification that is catalysed by the PRC1 complex and erased by the PR-DUB complex. Variants in critical subunits of each complex are known to be the causative event in diverse human diseases, such as AML and chromatinopathies. This project will investigate how pathogenic variants in members of the PRC1 and PR-DUB complexes contribute to changes in H2AK119ub1 using cancer and neurodevelopmental disease model systems. This will encompass a range of functional genomics, biochemistry and proteomics methods to investigate the precise impact that variants have on PR-DUB and PRC1 function – using methods such as CUT&Tag, Captify, RNA-seq, immunoprecipitation followed by mass spectrometry and high throughput pooled CRISPR screens.

The role of the applicant will be either computational biology, wet-lab or a hybrid of both depending on the successful candidates expertise. There will be strong opportunities for continued professional development as part of UCD Research Careers Framework and through attendance at external training courses and conferences. The applicant will be strongly encouraged and supported to pursue external funding opportunities during the period of the appointment in line with the development of their own career prospects and to further the overall research activities of the group.

PD1 Salary: €47,273 - €53,925 Per Annum

PD2 Salary: €55,399 - €60,250 Per Annum

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The PD2 post is intended for researchers who have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
