Are you an experienced software engineer passionate about technology, education and innovation? Join the EdTech team in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London, a world-leading centre for computer science teaching and research.

As an EdTech Software Engineer, you’ll design, build and operate innovative software used every day by staff and students to support teaching, learning and assessment. Working closely with academic and professional services colleagues and students, you’ll understand their needs and turn them into effective, reliable solutions using modern software engineering practices.

You’ll work with technologies including Python, TypeScript and React, developing new features while maintaining and continuously improving production systems. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore emerging technologies, including AI and automation, and consider how they can transform and enhance education.

This role goes beyond software development. You’ll contribute directly to education through teaching, tutorials, mentoring and student project supervision, as well as providing guidance and training to colleagues on educational technologies. You’ll also collaborate across the College and contribute to the wider digital education community.

We’re looking for an experienced software engineer with a degree or equivalent qualification in a Computing-related subject and a strong understanding of modern software development practices. Experience with web development frameworks such as FastAPI and React, automated testing and CI/CD is important. Experience managing Linux production systems or developing software for education would be an advantage.

You’ll be a creative, proactive problem solver with excellent communication skills, who enjoys collaborating with users and stakeholders and sharing knowledge with others. Enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring and supporting colleagues is essential.

In return, you’ll join a supportive and friendly team and have the opportunity to develop your career at a world-leading institution, with a sector-leading benefits package including 41 days’ annual leave, generous pension schemes, flexible working from day one, family leave, on-site leisure facilities and a cycle-to-work scheme.

Join us and help shape the future of education through technology, innovation and world-class software engineering.
