The Psychology subject area is home to the University's Psychology and Counselling and Psychotherapy provision, delivered at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. As a TEF Gold institution, we are proud to contribute high quality programmes grounded in psychological and behavioural science with a significant focus on applied psychology and professional practice. We provide a large accredited provision across several Professional and Statutory Regulatory Bodies (including the BACP, BABCP, NCPS, BPS, HCPC and CIEHF). Our programmes provide undergraduate underpinnings and initial postgraduate training in humanistic counselling, integrative counselling and psychotherapy and cognitive behavioural psychotherapy, as we as training towards careers across the psychological professions.

We are excited to offer a permanent part time (0.5FTE) post to support the delivery of our growing BACP accredited provision in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and wider counselling and psychotherapy programmes. As a Lecturer in Counselling and Psychotherapy you will contribute to the delivery of modules and wider activity that form part of the undergraduate and postgraduate portfolio across the Psychology subject area. Our provision is delivered mainly on campus although there may be some requirement for online delivery.

Psychology has an active research agenda and growing research profile. Our research portfolio in counselling and psychotherapy is growing; you will be expected to develop your research portfolio and engage with and/or support financially sustainable research and/or other appropriate academic and scholarly activity. There is support available for developing practice-based research which will further support your contribution to the development of industry integrated and research led curriculum. 

The role will include supporting our marketing events (e.g., open days) and outreach (e.g., school visits) which occasionally take place into evenings and at weekends. We do support hybrid working as business needs permit and in agreement with the Subject Lead.

About You

You will contribute to teaching across our excellent provision to enhance its quality and ensure an outstanding student experience. There is an expectation of working collaboratively across the Psychology subject area and wider College and Institution to deliver curriculum, and to progress the research and scholarship agenda. As such, skills in communication and collaboration are vital. The successful candidate will benefit from support to pursue research in keeping with the University of Derby academic themes, and contribute to our high-quality research profile.

We would especially welcome applications from candidates with BACP accreditation and who are training in integrative counselling (attachment, person centred and CBT modalities). We welcome applications from candidates who are in the early stages of their academic career, as well as applicants with experience in higher education.
