We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join the Advanced Materials Processing Laboratory (AMPLab) within the Department of Materials at Loughborough University as a Research Associate. The project is funded by Aerospace Technology Institute/Innovate-UK and investigates laser metal additive manufacturing, aiming to establish process-structure-property relationships to support the development of high-performance components.
About the role:
This 18-month fixed-term position focuses on understanding the relationships between processing parameters, microstructure and material performance to develop high-performance 3D-printed components. The role includes metal powder characterisation, alloy manufacturing, microstructural analysis, mechanical testing, data interpretation and dissemination of research outcomes.

About the Department
The Department of Materials offers a multidisciplinary research environment supported by state-of-the-art materials processing, testing and characterisation facilities. The Loughborough Materials Characterisation Centre (LMCC) further provides advanced microscopy and characterisation capabilities, including XRD, SEM, EBSD and TEM, enabling high-quality experimental research across materials science and engineering.
