Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) invites applications for one (1) open-rank teaching faculty position in Environmental Science. The position will support the curriculum for the Science, Technology, and International Affairs (STIA) major. 

The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic scientist who is able to communicate complex scientific concepts clearly to students with varying science backgrounds. The incumbent will develop courses and course sequences that introduce the foundational concepts of environmental sciences (including the dynamics and impacts of climate change, fundamentals of environmental systems, and key methods for environmental sciences), while also creating curricular opportunities for in-depth engagement with one or more of the above areas of research. 

Qualifications 

  • The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in the natural or life sciences, or a closely related field.
  • The ability to teach undergraduate courses in environmental science, including foundational courses on environmental systems, climate dynamics, and environmental research methods, is essential. We are open to a variety of methodological approaches.
  • Scholars with expertise in transboundary or global environmental science, including areas such as climate change, natural resource management, ocean science and fisheries, biodiversity and conservation, marine sciences, environmental toxicology, or desert ecologies, are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Scholarly expertise that supports the curricular goals of the STIA major is desirable.
  • Candidates should demonstrate excellence in teaching and a strong commitment to pedagogy.  

Academic Environment and Faculty Support 

Teaching Faculty teach three courses (or 9 credit hours) per semester (a 3-3 load), supported by best-in-class instructional infrastructure. To advance faculty scholarship and professional development, GU-Q provides:

  • Eligibility for funding through the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council (QRDI).
  • Eligibility to apply for a summer research supplement equivalent to 2/9 of base salary.
