Cryo-EM Industrial Projects Scientist

The Department of Biochemistry is one of the largest departments within the School of the Biological Sciences, and it conducts diverse cutting-edge research on cancer, cell, structural biology, and biomolecular interactions. The Department hosts a state-of-the-art Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM) Facility, including Talos Arctica 200 kV and Titan Krios 300 kV electron microscopes, along with associated equipment for sample preparation, data processing, and analysis.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Cryo-EM Industrial Projects Scientist to join the facility team. The role combines hands-on cryo-electron microscopy with the coordination and delivery of projects for industrial and commercial partners.

The successful candidate will support industrial and commercial projects from initial discussions and experimental design through to data collection, analysis and completion. They will act as a key contact for external clients, provide specialist scientific advice, coordinate project activity across the facility, and help ensure work is delivered to agreed quality, timescale and service requirements. The role will also contribute to facility operations, project costings, resource planning and the continued development of industrial services.

Applicants should hold a PhD/doctoral level degree in a relevant scientific discipline and have strong practical experience in biological cryo-electron microscopy and structural biology analysis. Experience of working within an industrial or commercial organisation is essential, together with a strong understanding of the expectations, timelines and client-facing requirements associated with commercial scientific projects.

Excellent project management, organisational, analytical and communication skills are also essential, as is the ability to work effectively with both scientific and non-scientific stakeholders.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 1 years in the first instance.
