Research Assistant

Location: Department of Paediatrics, University of Oxford, Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), Wood Group 

About the role 

An exciting opportunity is available for a Research Assistant to join the Wood Group, led by Professor Matthew Wood, at the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM), University of Oxford. The successful candidate will contribute to research developing oligonucleotide and molecular therapies for neuromuscular and degenerative disorders of the nervous system and muscle.  

The role will involve managing day-to-day research activities, conducting in vivo animal studies, collecting and analysing experimental data, learning new research techniques, and contributing to project planning. You will work collaboratively with colleagues and research partners and contribute to scientific reports, journal publications, conference papers and posters. You will also be expected to maintain high standards of laboratory practice and health and safety. 

Applicants must hold a BSc in a relevant scientific subject with practical laboratory experience. An active animal licence.  Candidates should be highly motivated, capable of working independently and within a team, and possess excellent communication skills. 

Experience in animal handling and therapeutic administration, animal colony database management and collaborative research would be advantageous. 

About you 

This is a highly collaborative position, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Applicants will need to hold a degree in Animal Welfare, Genetics, Neuroscience, Translational Research, or related subjects. 

About the Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) 

The Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) is a flagship research institute within the University of Oxford's Medical Sciences Division, based in a purpose-built facility on the Old Road Campus.
