The Role

The successful candidate will redesign and teach an undergraduate course in General, Organic and Biochemistry for nursing students enrolled on the Providence College programme in London.

The post-holder will:

• Adapt and update existing course materials for delivery within the London programme.
• Design engaging learning activities and assessments that support student success.
• Deliver approximately 40 contact teaching hours across a 12-week semester.
• Support student learning and academic development.
• Contribute to assessment, marking, and final examination processes.
• Create an inclusive and interactive learning environment for an international student cohort.

Preparatory work will take place during Autumn 2026, with teaching commencing in January 2027.

About the Course

General, Organic and Biochemistry introduces students to the fundamental principles of chemistry and their application to nursing and health professions.

The course provides a scientific foundation for understanding the chemical processes that underpin human health and disease. Students explore key concepts in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry while developing the analytical skills required to apply scientific knowledge in healthcare settings.

Topics may include:

• Atomic structure and chemical bonding
• Chemical reactions and stoichiometry
• Acids, bases, and pH balance
• Organic compounds and functional groups
• Structure and properties of biological molecules
• Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids
• Enzymes and metabolic pathways
• Cell chemistry and energy production
• Biochemical processes relevant to human physiology
• Applications of chemistry in nursing and healthcare practice

The course aims to help students understand how chemical principles explain biological processes and support evidence-based practice across nursing and allied health professions.

About You

We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative educator with expertise in biochemistry, chemistry, biomedical sciences, or a closely related discipline.

You will have:

Essential Criteria

• A PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrable expertise in general, organic, and biochemistry.
• Experience teaching at undergraduate level within higher education.
• A strong track record of delivering engaging, student-centred learning.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.
• Unrestricted right to work in the UK.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience teaching nursing, health sciences, biomedical sciences, or allied health students.
• Curriculum or module development experience.
• Experience of laboratory teaching or practical science instruction.
• Familiarity with US higher education systems or study abroad programmes.
• Professional or research experience in biochemistry or a related scientific field.
