The Post

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences within the Faculty of Natural Sciences, is seeking to appoint a one-year 0.4 FTE Lecturer (maternity cover) in Environmental Science. The postholder will contribute to high-quality teaching in soil science and related areas of environmental management. Applicants with expertise in soil science, plant ecology, biogeochemistry, and related fields are particularly encouraged to apply, as are those with experience in field-based teaching and the development of practical field skills.

The post holder will be expected to undertake lectures, practicals and field-classes in the subject areas outlined above, contribute to module coordination, set and mark appropriate coursework/exam questions, supervise dissertation students (final-year undergraduate and PGT), contribute to academic administration linked to assessment cycles, moderation and quality processes and conduct one-to-one tutorials.

This post is offered at a Grade 7 (Lecturer) level. 

Description of Duties

• Contribute to the design, delivery, assessment and evaluation of a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including online/digital programmes, where required
• Contribute to the enhancement of the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the HE sector
• Demonstrate a broad understanding of effective approaches to teaching and learning support as key contributions to high quality student learning
• Contribute to enhancement of the student experience and employability
• Participate in the Faculty’s international engagement activities as required e.g delivering teaching, contributing to joint programmes and recruitment of students 

Essential Criteria 

Qualifications

• PhD in relevant discipline or close to successful completion or equivalent professional and/or teaching experience 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Experience or knowledge to deliver, assess and evaluate modules in the subject area
• Demonstrate an understanding of or provide evidence of developing effective approaches to teaching and learning, student support and guidance
