50 fully funded 4-year EPSRC PhD Studentships in Engineering and Physical Sciences

The UCL EPSRC Doctoral Landscape Award (UELA) is recruiting for approximately 50 fully funded, 4-year PhD studentships, starting in October 2027.

You can apply for projects from the UELA project catalogue, featuring around 100 projects across the breadth of EPSRC’s remit. Research areas include Energy and Decarbonisation, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Healthcare Technologies, and many more topics across Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences.

What we offer

  • Approximately 50 fully funded, 4-year studentships starting in October 2027
  • Tuition fees covered for four years
  • A stipend at the UELA enhanced rate, estimated at £26,022 for 2027/28, rising each year
  • A Research Training Support Grant to support additional training and research costs, such as courses, project costs, conferences and travel
  • Part-time study at a minimum of 50% full-time equivalent, with the studentship duration and stipend adjusted pro-rata
  • A catalogue of over 100 projects, including collaborative projects with industry partners

How to Apply

UELA studentships are open to both Home and International students. International offers are capped at a maximum of 15 places, thus Home applications are strongly encouraged. Applicants can apply for up to three projects from those available in the project catalogue.
