Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor (English Applied Linguistics) in the Department of English [Ref. R/240/26] 

The Department of English is a dynamic and collegial department with research strengths in English Applied Linguistics including Educational Linguistics, Professional Communication, Healthcare Communication, and Multimodality and Digital Technologies. The Department is home to the New Frontiers in Professional Communication Lab and offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in English Studies. 

We are seeking excellent scholars to join our vibrant intellectual community and fill a total of three positions. While we will consider exceptional candidates in any area of English Applied Linguistics, we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise relevant to the following positions: 

1. Professional Communication, Healthcare Communication, Educational Linguistics, or Digital Technologies (Professor/Associate Professor)
2. TESOL, including English for Specific Purposes and Language and Literacy Education (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor)
3. Corporate Communication, and/or Professional Communication, and/or Health Communication (Professor/Associate Professor/Assistant Professor) 

Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:

1. Conduct research that is internationally excellent, publish and promote their research, secure research funding, and pursue engagement activities leading to societal impact;
2. Make a significant contribution to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including supervising research students;
3. Contribute to curriculum development through innovative discovery-enriched teaching;
4. Contribute to the intellectual life of the department and university;
5. Play a role in shaping the future of the department by providing academic leadership, as appropriate to rank and experience; and
6. Engage in service to the department, university, and the profession, taking on leadership roles and mentoring junior faculty as appropriate to rank and experience. 

Requirements

Candidates for Professor should have a doctorate with a distinguished record of teaching, administration and research, with a portfolio of outstanding contributions to their field of scholarship (including publications and grant capture), a strong teaching record, and a strong record of leadership in research and academic professional service. 

Candidates for Associate Professor should have a doctorate with substantial teaching, professional or research experience, with a strong record of internationally excellent contributions to their field of scholarship (including publications and grant capture), a strong teaching record, as well as evidence of significant contributions to academic and professional development. 

Candidates for Assistant Professor should have a doctorate and demonstrate strong potential for excellence in scholarship and teaching. This should be evidenced by a clear and promising research agenda, emerging publications with a strong existing track record, the potential to secure external research funding, and a commitment to high-quality teaching. 

A research agenda that complements or expands existing departmental strengths in Professional Communication, Healthcare Communication, Educational Linguistics or Digital Technologies would be an advantage. 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance.  Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable).  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
