Principal Lecturer in Cyber & Computing

The Faculty of Arts, Computing and Engineering is seeking to appoint a Principal Lecturer to lead our high performing Cyber and Computing subject area for an 18 month fixed term period.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide operational and academic leadership for an established subject area with a strong recent record of student experience and National Student Survey performance. Working closely with the Dean, Associate Deans and wider Faculty leadership team, the post holder will play a key role in maintaining academic excellence while supporting the continued development and strategic direction of Cyber and Computing.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Principal Lecturers across the Faculty and wider University to identify opportunities, share effective practice and contribute to the delivery of the University’s 2030 Strategy.

Central to the role will be an understanding of the future development of Cyber and Computing and the ability to translate strategic priorities into effective operational delivery. The post holder will be expected to make effective use of available resources, manage competing priorities and draw upon information from multiple sources to support evidence informed decision making.

Excellent communication, collaborative leadership and relationship management skills are essential. The successful candidate will lead and support an established academic team, creating a positive and collegiate environment in which colleagues can contribute effectively to subject, Faculty and University objectives. Applications are welcomed from colleagues who can demonstrate leadership and influence, including leadership without formal portfolio responsibility.

The role involves oversight of a diverse and complex portfolio of activity, including UK and international provision, traditional and online delivery, transnational education and academic partnerships. Applicants should therefore be able to demonstrate the organisational skills and adaptability required to manage activity across different modes and contexts.

We particularly welcome applications from colleagues who can demonstrate experience and leadership across learning and teaching innovation, academic quality, subject research, partnerships, innovation and enterprise. The role will also contribute to the continued development of the Cyber Innovation Academy, working collaboratively with regional schools, colleges, employers and industry partners to strengthen progression and talent pipelines, develop external engagement and support opportunities for third stream income.

The post holder will have line management responsibility for staff within Cyber and Computing and will report to an Associate Dean.

The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable for this post.
