Salary from £53,949 to £62,160 per annum inclusive with potential to progress to £69,073 pa inclusive of London allowance

The London School of Economics is a cosmopolitan university situated in the vibrant centre of London that specialises in the study of social sciences. LSE’s Data and Technology Services division (DTS) provides services to over 10,000 staff and student users.

We are looking for an experienced Network Engineering Lead to help shape the future of network services at one of the world's leading universities.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will provide technical leadership for the School's network services, including campus, wireless, remote access, data centre and network security. You will be responsible for ensuring network services remain secure, resilient and capable of supporting the evolving needs of our staff, students and researchers.

We are looking for a leader who sees network engineering as a strategic enabler of teaching, research and professional services. Someone who can challenge the status quo, identify opportunities for improvement and drive meaningful change through technology, people and process. Alongside significant experience operating and evolving enterprise network environments, you will bring the resilience, adaptability and technical leadership needed to develop a high-performing team, balance competing priorities and continually improve services in a complex and fast-moving environment.

You will play a key role in the ongoing transformation of the School's network estate, helping to strengthen security, improve operational maturity and engineering capabilities, and modernise network architecture. This includes driving improvements in areas such as network segmentation, resilience, service standardisation and automation, ensuring network services evolve to support the School's Technology Strategy and wider institutional priorities.

This is a highly collaborative leadership role requiring significant on-site presence and engagement with stakeholders from across the school.

We are looking for:

• Experience leading technical teams and coordinating engineering resources across operational support, projects and service improvement initiatives.
• A track record of delivering network modernisation, service improvements and operational excellence.
• The ability to collaborate effectively across organisational boundaries and deliver high-impact outcomes in a complex environment.
• A passion for engineering excellence, continuous improvement and developing high-performing teams.

Candidates should have:

• Strong practical expertise across enterprise-class network domains (routing, switching, wireless, remote access and network security, Firewall technologies, DNS, DHCP, IPAM).
• Experience in the operations and improvement of large, business-critical network environments with high availability, resilience and security requirements.
• Experience working collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams to deliver operational services, projects, infrastructure changes/programmes or technology-enabled initiatives and developing operational plans.
