Lecturer (Optometry and Vision Sciences)

The Optometry Programme within the School of Health Professions at the University of Plymouth is seeking an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join our team and contribute to our teaching, research and programme development activities.

About the role

You will work as part of the Vision Science team to provide innovative teaching, primarily in undergraduate programmes. This includes the design and preparation of teaching materials, course planning and delivery, and assessment. The role has the potential to take on the role of Programme Lead where you will be responsible for maintaining academic standards and student learning environments across the programme.  Experience of clinical practice as a Dispensing Optician or Optometrist and registration with the General Optical Council, are essential.  As part of our Eye & Vision research group you will have the opportunity to contribute to our research programme and to publications and grant funding applications if applicable.

This is a permanent post. Full-time and part-time applications are welcomed.

The role includes:

• Working closely with the Vision Science team, apprentices, employers and the University’s Apprenticeship Hub to shape and deliver innovative undergraduate and apprenticeship education.
• Working as part of the team to provide innovative teaching including; the design and preparation of teaching materials, course planning and delivery, and assessment.

What we’re looking for

You will:

• Work as part of the Vision Science team to provide innovative teaching, primarily in undergraduate programmes. This includes the design and preparation of teaching materials, course planning and delivery, and assessment.
• Take part in clinical supervision of students in our patient facing optometry clinic one day a week.
• Be currently be registered with the following registration board: General Optical Council (GOC)
• Have experience of clinical practice as a Dispensing Optician or Optometrist
