Associate/Assistant Professor in Urban Public Safety and Disaster Prevention

Institute of Smart City Technologies - ISCT

The Institute of Smart City Technologies (ISCT), established in 2026 as an independent academic unit of the University of Macau, advances smart-city development through education, research, innovation, and technology transfer. Working closely with the State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City (IOTSC), ISCT conducts research in IoT, artificial intelligence, big data, and smart-city engineering. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, talent cultivation, and industry partnerships, ISCT develops innovative solutions to promote urban sustainability, enhance quality of life, and support innovation-driven development in Macao and the Greater Bay Area. Faculty of Engineering - FEG

The Faculty of Engineering (FEG) is the youngest and one of the most vibrant faculties at the UM, dedicated to student-centric education and cutting-edge research in engineering and science. It consists of 6 departments: Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Ocean Science and Technology, Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. Qualifications

1. A PhD degree in Geography, Atmospheric Sciences, Earth System Science, Sustainable Engineering, Urban Science, Geographic Information System, Ecology, or related disciplines;
2. Candidates should have considerable experience in academic development planning and research development, and be excellent in teaching, research and service with outstanding academic leadership skills for research and development;
3. A distinguished record of internationally-recognized research;
4. Substantial experience in securing research funding;
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
6. English is the working language, while knowledge in Chinese/Portuguese will be an advantage. 

The selected candidate is expected to assume duty as soon as possible. 

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
