What You Will Do

Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha | University of Canterbury invites applications for a continuing academic position at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Associate Professor in Digital Health within Te Kaupeka Oranga | Faculty of Health. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collegial, future-focused Faculty and contribute to high-quality research and education in a rapidly evolving area of health.

We are seeking candidates with expertise in one or more areas of digital health, health informatics, health technology, health data analytics, or artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching within the new Master of Health Leadership and Management, with additional opportunities to teach within the Master of Health Sciences and other relevant programmes. Teaching will include online delivery through UC Online, alongside supervision of Master’s and Doctoral research students.

The role will involve curriculum development, course coordination and teaching, including supporting students to undertake applied, industry-focused projects. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of teaching and research capability in digital health and related fields, helping ensure our programmes remain current, innovative, and responsive to emerging developments and workforce needs.

As an academic staff member, you will be expected to develop and maintain a strong programme of research, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and actively pursue external research funding and partnerships. A strong track record, or demonstrated potential, for translating research into meaningful impact across health, industry, policy, practice, or communities will be important.

This appointment offers an opportunity for an emerging or established academic to help shape the Faculty’s growing capability in digital health, build productive collaborations within and beyond the University, and contribute to the development of the next generation of health leaders and researchers.

Who You Are
We are seeking an established academic leader with a PhD in Health, Digital Health or a related field. This position would be particularly relevant for those with expertise in either, digital Health, health informatics, health technology, health data analytics, or artificial intelligence research.

What you will bring:

• Minimum qualification of a PhD
• Experience with online and/or blended teaching and learning pedagogies.
• A record of high-quality research and publication appropriate to career stage and the level of appointment, with evidence of contributing to or leading innovative research programmes.
• Evidence of securing, or contributing to, external research funding, commensurate with career stage and the level of appointment.
• Experience supervising postgraduate research students, with more senior applicants expected to demonstrate a sustained record of successful Master’s and Doctoral supervision.
• Experience contributing to the development, coordination, and/or leadership of Digital Health or related programmes, with expectations commensurate with the level of appointment.
• Evidence of developing productive academic, organisational, community, and/or industry networks relevant to their area of expertise.
• Active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori

Te Kaupeka Oranga | Faculty of Health offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and research activities that respond to the dynamic nature of the health and sport sectors and their workforce. This role sits within the Academic Staff, Associated Staff and Support Staff Collective Agreement and the following salary scale applies: Lecturer $94,181 - $113,616; Senior Lecturer $119,586 - $135,630, Senior Lecturer Above the Bar $141,600 - $ 149,806. Associate Professor $155,592 - $167,718 2026 salary scales
