Faculty Position in International Economics, Open Rank

Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) invites applications for one (1) open-rank core faculty position in International Economics.  

We welcome applications from candidates in all fields of economics, with a preference for candidates conducting applied and empirically relevant research. This may include, but is not limited to, fields such as international economics, development economics, behavioral economics, labor economics, political economy, and applied microeconomics and macroeconomics. Applicants should demonstrate a strong research profile, evidenced by a substantial record of high-quality research accomplishments or, for more junior candidates, clear evidence of the potential to develop such a record. Candidates should also have an ambitious and active research agenda and a strong record of teaching excellence. 

Appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications. 

Qualifications 

• A Ph.D. in Economics.
• A strong and active research agenda, with a demonstrated record of publication in leading economics journals or, for junior candidates, clear evidence of the potential to establish such a record.
• A strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring, demonstrated through previous teaching experience and, for senior candidates, a sustained record of teaching effectiveness and student mentorship.

Academic Environment and Faculty Support 

Faculty typically teach two courses (or 6 credit hours) per semester (a 2-2 load), supported by best-in-class instructional infrastructure.  

To advance faculty scholarship and professional development, GU-Q provides:

• Eligibility for funding through the Qatar Research, Development, and Innovation Council (QRDI).
• Eligibility to apply for a summer research supplement equivalent to 2/9 of base salary.
