About the role

In this role, you will undertake high-quality research in Automatic Control and related areas such as aerospace systems, autonomous systems, power networks, digital manufacturing, green energy technologies, materials or biomedical engineering. You will develop an internationally recognised research profile through publishing high-quality outputs, attracting external funding and collaborating with colleagues, industry partners and institutions in the UK and internationally.

Alongside your research activity, you will contribute to teaching and student support across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. A key aspect of the role involves delivering modules at the Dalian Leicester Institute, based at the Panjin Campus of Dalian University of Technology in China, for up to 25 weeks each academic year. You will teach specialist topics in dynamics and control engineering, support student projects and tutorials, and contribute to the academic and administrative activities that underpin an excellent student experience.

About you

You will hold a degree in engineering, science or mathematics together with a PhD and post-doctoral research experience in a relevant discipline. You will have an established record of publishing high-quality research and the ability to develop competitive research funding applications. Applicants should demonstrate the potential to make a significant contribution to the School’s research strengths while enhancing its national and international reputation. An academic teaching qualification, or a commitment to achieve the appropriate category of Higher Education Academy Fellowship, is also required.

You will bring the enthusiasm and capability to teach across the broad area of aerospace and mechanical engineering, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively, supervise student projects, contribute to curriculum development and engage effectively with colleagues and students in both Leicester and China. Flexibility, a commitment to academic excellence and a willingness to travel and work overseas are essential for success in this rewarding role.
