Assistant Professor in Translation Studies

The Department of Arabic and Translation Studies at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Translation Studies, to begin in Fall 2027, subject to budgetary approval. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Translation Studies, Interpreting Studies, Translation Technology, Computational Linguistics, or a closely related field. Strong preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research (or demonstrably promising) expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence and large language models in translation and post-editing, computer-assisted translation, translation management systems, terminology management, corpus-based translation studies, localization, digital workflows for professional translation, translation quality assessment, audiovisual translation, and ethical, pedagogical, and professional implications of emerging language technologies in/for translation. We expect the successful applicant to make substantial contributions to the Department’s developing profile in translation technology, particularly the MA in Translation (MATra), and to support our undergraduate courses.  The ability to develop innovative courses, laboratories, partnerships, or research initiatives at the intersection of translation, language technologies / engineering, and the humanities will be a significant advantage.

Successful applicants will have native or near-native proficiency in Arabic and English. The language of instruction at AUS is English; however, the ability to teach translation courses in both Arabic and English is strongly preferred. Evidence of relevant university-level teaching experience, technological fluency, and familiarity with Western models of higher education are expected. We seek candidates with a passion for both teaching and research in relevant areas of specialization to join our faculty.  UAE nationals are particularly encouraged to apply.
