Senior Clinical Research Physician – Sexual Health & Gonococcal Studies

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Oxford Vaccine Group (OVG) in the Department of Paediatrics as our Senior Clinical Research Physician - Sexual Health & Gonococcal Studies.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, you will provide senior, specialist Genitourinary Medicine (GUM) and/or Sexual Health input into the development and delivery of gonococcal human challenge studies and related translational research within the CoI-AI Programme at the University of Oxford.

Working closely with the Principal Investigator, clinical research team and wider multidisciplinary study team, you will provide senior, specialist advice on the design, set-up and implementation of gonococcal research studies. You will contribute expertise in sexual health clinical practice, participant assessment, sexually transmitted infection screening, risk assessment and the management of clinical scenarios arising during study delivery.

You will be working in a growing department within the Medical Sciences Division. The Department of Paediatrics is a world leader in child health research and hosts internationally renowned research programmes in drug development, gastroenterology, haematology, HIV, immunology, neuroimaging, neuromuscular diseases and vaccinology. The Oxford Vaccine Group is a world-leading academic research group conducting clinical and translational studies to advance vaccine development working with a diverse portfolio funded by industry, government and charitable organisations.

This position is offered part-time (approximately 4 hours per week) on a fixed-term contract initially for 1 year with the possibility to extend provided further external funding is available.

About you

You will have full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practise, together with CCT or equivalent specialist accreditation in Genitourinary Medicine, Sexual Health, HIV Medicine or another closely related specialty providing substantial expertise in the diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted infections.

You will have substantial clinical experience in Genitourinary Medicine and/or Sexual Health, including specialist knowledge relevant to gonococcal infection and experience interpreting sexually transmitted infection screening results, including syphilis serology. You will be able to provide independent specialist clinical advice in complex or unexpected situations, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research and clinical team.
