Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 1st October 2026
Closes: 12th October 2026
Job Ref: 620577

An exciting opportunity to join a team providing a high-quality, responsive IT and AV support service to staff and students at Birkbeck.

Our IT support specialists deliver front-line support for the deployment, maintenance, and use of computers and classroom-based audio-visual equipment to provide a high-quality customer-focused experience in their use of all IS-supported services.

You will work in a team on a shift roster basis to provide services from 8 am to 8:30 pm, Monday to Friday, and at other times and on weekends as required. You must have a strong self-motivated approach with the ability to work at pace and with the competence to deliver a first-time fix for our users.

You should have significant previous experience of providing second-line support and working with specialist technical teams to provide solutions to our users, who are from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds and work in highly demanding environments.

We provide support and training on our systems and development over time for you to build on and update your skills. However, a solid and demonstrable understanding of MS Windows and Networking, gained in a corporate environment, is essential. The support of AV equipment in a classroom environment and experience of working in higher education would be an advantage.

This is a fully office-based role. We are looking for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative, in-person environment. The successful candidate will be expected to work onsite every working day. Please only apply if you are able to commit to this working arrangement.

Applicants who have previously applied for this role are not eligible to apply again.

Contract:
This role is full-time on an open-ended basis working 35 hours per week.

Interviews will be held on 21 October 2026.

Salary and benefits:
Grade 5 of the College's London Pay Scale which is £34,827 rising to £38,981 per annum.

Birkbeck offers a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and some of the most generous benefits in the HE sector, all while being located right in the heart of Central London.
