The University of Liverpool is seeking an innovative and motivated Data Scientist to join the Civic Health Innovation Labs (CHIL), a Research Centre of Excellence delivering both the Analogue2Digital theme of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration North West Coast (ARC NWC) and the Civic HealthTech Innovation Zone (CHIZone). This is an exciting opportunity to apply artificial intelligence, machine learning and advanced analytics to improve health and care services and reduce health inequalities.
This post is fixed term until 31 March 2031.
Working across ARC NWC, CHIZone and its HealthTech Design Studio, you will develop and deliver advanced analytical solutions using AI, machine learning and related quantitative methods. You will build secure and reproducible AI pipelines, analyse complex health and population datasets, and work closely with academic, NHS, industry, policy and public partners to generate insights that support innovation, research and service improvement.
You will contribute to knowledge exchange, capacity building and research dissemination through publications, presentations and funding applications, while helping to shape the future of data science and AI within a rapidly growing interdisciplinary research environment.
You should hold a PhD (or equivalent experience) in data science or a related quantitative discipline, with experience in machine learning, AI or advanced analytics. Strong programming skills in Python, R or similar languages, experience working with large and complex datasets, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences are essential. Experience in health or social care research would be advantageous.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
