The Knoop Scholarship is available to students wishing to study a PhD in the School of Economics. It is awarded based on the proposed project’s academic significance, its fit with the School’s research priorities, and the suitability of the applicant and supervisory team.
The award covers full payment of Home tuition fees for 3.5 years, as well as an annual stipend for living costs (aligned with UKRI rates). As part of the scholarship, students will be expected to complete up to 180 hours per year of Graduate Teaching Assistance which will be paid in addition to the Scholarship at the University’s standard GTA rate.
Applications are welcome from candidates with a home or international fee status. In the event that the successful candidate holds an international fee status, the successful candidate will be responsible for paying the difference between the home and international fees. The successful candidate will not be permitted to utilise the stipend payment associated with this position for the purpose of paying the tuition fee due to registration restrictions.
To be considered for the Knoop Scholarship, applicants must submit an online application and a fully referenced research proposal. Only applicants who have been made an offer to study for a PhD at the School of Economics will be considered for the Scholarship. You must have received an offer to study by 20th January 2026 to be considered for the Knoop Scholarship. Applicants must apply by 4th January at the latest in order to allow their application to be processed to meet the deadline. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview and it is expected that successful candidates will be informed in April 2027.
