We are looking for an ambitious landscape designer, landscape architect and educator to lead the development and delivery of a new BA Landscape Design at Camberwell College of Arts.
This is an exciting opportunity to establish a new subject area within one of London’s leading art and design colleges and to shape an undergraduate course exploring the relationships between landscape, architecture, interiors, ecology and communities.
The course takes a broad view of landscape as a designed environment: from public space and urban landscapes to ecological systems, infrastructure and the spaces between buildings. Through studio-based learning, live projects and critical enquiry, students will develop the creative, technical and professional skills needed to contribute to a rapidly changing landscape sector.
You will lead a curriculum that combines design studios with theory, environmental thinking, technical development and professional practice. Students will work collaboratively with communities and external partners, undertake site-based learning and have opportunities for international exchange and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
The course will also benefit from a developing relationship with the Royal Horticultural Society, including access to its heritage collections and reading room and opportunities for visits to Wisley.
You will join the Interior Futures team at Camberwell and work alongside colleagues in Interior Architecture, creating opportunities to explore the connections between different scales and forms of spatial practice.
Your profile
You will be an experienced Higher Education educator with substantial expertise in landscape design, landscape architecture or a closely related discipline, combined with a strong professional, research or practice profile.
You will bring a clear understanding of contemporary landscape practice and the ability to develop ambitious, inclusive and critically engaged studio education.
We are particularly interested in people who can connect landscape design with climate resilience, ecology, social justice, community engagement and the wider built environment, while also understanding the technical and professional requirements of the discipline.
You will be an inspiring and collaborative leader, able to build a new academic team, develop external partnerships and create a distinctive identity for the course.
The course is being developed with the intention of seeking Landscape Institute Candidate Status and mapping the curriculum against relevant professional competencies.
This is an opportunity to help establish a new landscape design education offer at Camberwell from the ground up.
