On the 1 August 2026, the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent formed a pioneering new multi-university group called London and South-East (LASE) University Group.
Should you join us, you will be employed by LASE but will work as part of the University of Greenwich academic division, contributing to its distinct strengths, community and identity while also being part of a wider group that brings together the scale, resilience and shared ambition of both universities.
Through LASE we aim to deliver outstanding education, impactful research, and meaningful regional and global impact.
This is an opportunity to join a particularly vibrant research environment. The university’s Centre for Sustainable Cyber Security is recognised by the UK government as one of only nine Academic Centres of Excellence for both Research and Education in Cyber Security: https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/case-study/the-university-of-greenwich
This position is part of EU project GANNDALF and relates to studying and addressing the privacy-explainability tradeoff of explainable AI use in modern cyber crime investigations. Through agency-to-agency data sharing mechanisms and the deployment of a decision-support toolbox to identify cyber threats, GANNDALF is delivering a customisable and collaborative crime investigation sandbox for scenarios for sophisticated crime investigation. The role holder will help advance our existing work in optimising explainability strength in cyber crime investigations, taking into account privacy. The role holder will also take on the corresponding pilot implementations and evaluations.
The role holder is expected to have a PhD in computer science or equivalent and a strong publication record in privacy-enhancing technologies or explainable AI. See the job specification for more details.
The post is until the end of the project (end of September 2027), but there is scope to extend further.
