About the Role

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is seeking to recruit a new Director of Education.  This is an exciting opportunity to champion RIBA’s role in supporting high-quality architectural education across the globe and to lead our learning and outreach programmes with young people and the wider public.

What are we looking for?

It is a time of rapid change in the education and initial training of architects as important reforms are being made to enhance the competence and capability of the next generation of architects, and more flexible study routes introduced to support a more accessible and diverse profession.  This role will be a key influencer in the development of this new educational landscape.

The remit also includes acting as the Head of the RIBA School of Architecture, supporting the ongoing innovation of our RIBA Studio practice-based Part 1 and 2 courses, delivered in partnership with Oxford Brookes University, and the development and promotion of our RIBA Part 3 course in the UK and internationally.

Essential

  • A collaborative leader who can work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence, persuade and negotiate with members, academics and other key stakeholders, to co-ordinate advisory groups, and represent the RIBA on education and learning related matters.
  • Excellent written, visual and oral presentation skills.
  • Experience of business planning and budget management.
  • Willingness to work occasionally outside office hours and to travel extensively, often outside UK.

Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of delivery of learning programmes and engagement activities for a public audience, including children, young people, and older adults
  • First-hand experience of working with either a professional membership organisation, statutory body, or regulatory body concerned with establishing academic and education standards.
  • Higher degree in subject related to architecture, design, and/or built environment.
  • Deep understanding of education and learning in architecture, gained either as an architectural educator or academic or by having held a senior role in an educational/learning organisation.

We encourage applicants to review the essential criteria carefully and ensure their application clearly demonstrates how they meet these requirements, as applications will be shortlisted against the criteria outlined in the person specification.

Please apply via the ‘Apply’ button above.

Please note that applications without a covering letter will not be considered and we will only review applications received directly through our company website.
