About the School/Department/Institute/Project

The Barts Cancer Institute (BCI) is a Cancer Research UK Centre of Excellence whose work aims to transform the lives of those with and at risk of cancer through innovative research in the laboratory, in patients and in populations. BCI is internationally renowned in many areas of cancer research and it combines ground-breaking basic research with the expertise of clinicians to achieve improvements in cancer patient care.

We are undertaking a PCUK-funded clinical study to evaluate the use of circulating tumour cells (CTCs), DNA (ctDNA) and immune factors in the blood to predict surgery outcomes (cancer recurrence/metastasis), aiming to accurately predict surgical outcome for treatment selection. Tissue banking is fundamental for translation medical research and we have a long-established male urological cancer tissue bank, which is essential to underpin our research projects.
