Department
Ranked 3rd in the UK for Research Power (Times Higher Education research power measure, Research Excellence Framework 2021), Essex Law School is recognised across the world for taking excellence in research and excellence in education equally seriously. The School promotes equality, diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of its work.
Essex Law School offers a wide range of courses to students with a blend of experiential learning. Alongside our single-honours LLB, we deliver joint LLBs with various other subjects such as human rights, philosophy, business, finance, and criminology and run an award-winning LLB Licence English and French Law (Double Degree). At the postgraduate level, we offer a general LLM and courses in subjects including international law, international commercial and business law, law and technology, law, environment and sustainability, and human rights (both LLM and interdisciplinary MA).
Duties of the Role
Essex Law School is recruiting a lecturer to join our diverse community of scholars who will be able to contribute to excellent research and teaching within the School, delivering specific expertise in the areas of media and communications law. Ability and willingness to contribute to at least one compulsory area of our LLB curriculum is essential. Ability and willingness to contribute to other areas of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum, particularly intellectual property law, is desirable. The appointee will demonstrate a commitment to providing an engaging, innovative curriculum that meets the modern needs of our student body in a campus-based environment. They will take an active role in the administration of the School and will carry out research and produce high-quality research outputs suitable for submission to the Law subject section in the Research Excellence Framework (REF).
Skills and qualifications required
Applicants will have a relevant doctoral level research degree or equivalent professional experience/practice or be close to completion of a PhD, as well as having an undergraduate/postgraduate degree in law (or equivalent professional experience). They will have experience in teaching at undergraduate/postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to contribute to teaching and learning support in engaging and innovative ways.
At the University of Essex, internationalism and diversity is central to who we are and what we do. We are committed to being a cosmopolitan, internationally oriented university that is welcoming to staff and students from all countries, faiths and backgrounds, where you can find the world in one place.
To support this commitment we have our Global Forum, a staff-led network that promotes and celebrates the rich cultural diversity among Essex staff, and our Colchester campus based Faith Centre, which hosts regular services, meetings and events organised by our chaplains and faith representatives.
We particularly welcome applications from those from an ethnic minority as they are under-represented in the School of Law.
