Overview
As the University builds on its proud heritage, we are looking for exceptional people to help shape our future. We provide a high-quality professional environment, inspired by our distinctive ethos and Catholic mission and values. Our values of excellence, generosity of spirit, inclusiveness and respect inspire us to create an academic community in which everybody is welcomed and which puts the student at the centre of all our endeavours.
Job Overview
At St Mary’s University, we believe that every student should feel welcomed, supported and able to succeed. We are looking for an empathetic, proactive and student-focused Pastoral Tutor to join our Student Success Team and play a key role in helping our students thrive throughout their university journey.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting students and building positive relationships. You will work closely with students, academic colleagues and professional services to understand individual needs, remove barriers to engagement and help students access the right support at the right time.
About the role
As a Pastoral Tutor, you will provide enhanced pastoral support to students, particularly those who may face barriers to engagement, progression or success. You will work with a diverse student community, including mature students, international students and those who may not have had a positive experience of education previously.
A key part of the role will be responding to students where there are signs of reduced attendance or engagement. You won't be expected to simply monitor attendance or police student behaviour. Instead, you will use information from our Personal Tutor Dashboard to understand where a student may need additional support, have meaningful conversations with them, explore the reasons behind any changes in their engagement and work with them to identify practical and appropriate solutions.
You will build trusted relationships with students and provide a supportive, non-judgemental point of contact, helping students navigate University services and connecting them with specialist support where appropriate.
If you are someone who is approachable, compassionate and solutions-focused, and who wants to make a genuine difference to students' university experience, we would love to hear from you.
