We have an exciting opportunity in the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC) for someone with a passion for supporting world-leading research, who is looking to use their leadership skills, experience and technical knowledge to join our team.
The EIC brings together pioneering facilities, including the Translational Energy Research Centre (TERC) and the Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre (SAF-IC) — one of the UK’s leading platforms for developing and testing next-generation low-carbon fuels.
We are seeking a Technical Manager to lead our technical team and drive a strong culture of operational excellence, safety and quality. In this key leadership role, you will combine deep technical expertise, strong organisational skills, and knowledge of statutory requirements and health and safety to lead operations of the site and pilot-scale industrial research facilities to support and enable analytical, research, development and small-scale technology demonstration activities of the centre.
If you thrive on independent problem-solving and leadership and want to work at the forefront of energy innovation, this is an opportunity to make a lasting impact.
Working in close partnership with the Departmental Technical Manager and the Health & Safety Officer, you will lead a dedicated technical team and ensure that our research and operations are managed efficiently to meet the evolving needs of our pilot-scale research activities.
From overseeing day-to-day site operations to leading the long-term planning and strategic allocation of technical resources and capabilities, you will play a pivotal role in driving service excellence and ensuring business continuity. Working closely with the School Health & Safety Officer, you will help maintain compliance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, promote the sharing of best practice, and foster a strong safety-first culture across the Centre.
Who we’re looking for
You will hold a relevant degree or have equivalent professional experience, together with substantial practical experience in a pilot-scale, process or comparable industrial environment.
You will have knowledge and understanding of industrial practices and health and safety regulations and relevant statutory requirements. As you will be responsible for technical operations across a broad range of activities, a wide range of relevant technical expertise and knowledge (including mechanical, electrical and industrial controls) is essential, as well as excellent people management skills.
