This PhD project will explore theoretical questions at the interface of topological physics, quantum many-body systems and quantum simulation with ultracold atoms.
Modern quantum platforms such as ultracold atoms provide unprecedented opportunities to engineer and study new forms of quantum matter in new ways. A central goal of this PhD project will be to understand how topology and quantum geometry interact with interactions, dynamics, nonlinearity and dissipation. The results of this PhD would feed into future optical lattice experiments using ultracold atoms. This project would involve working closely with the EPSRC-funded Programme Grant on "Quantum Advantage in Quantitative Quantum Simulation", which brings together experimental and theoretical researchers across the UK.
The project would suit a student interested in condensed-matter theory, AMO physics or quantum information, who enjoys combining physical intuition, analytical calculations and computational techniques to uncover new quantum phenomena.
