The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) has openings for new Research Group Leaders whose work helps to understand how life works.
The MRC LMB is a research institute dedicated to the understanding of fundamental biological processes at the levels of atoms, molecules, cells and organisms. The knowledge we provide is crucial to solving key problems in human health.
We are looking for new Research Group Leaders with innovative ideas that address discovery-driven biology or methods development, using experimental or computational approaches, on topics that build on and extend our existing strengths. The LMB encourages investigator-led curiosity-driven research. Within this bottom-up framework, subsets of groups also contribute to four broader missions in the areas of structural cell biology, neurodegeneration, neuronal connectomics, and artificial biology.
You will join us in our core-funded research institute with a uniquely collaborative and collegial environment. We offer generous funding to tenured and tenure-track group leaders, including for start-up, consumables, equipment and staff. We also offer free access to our well-supported in-house facilities, which include electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray crystallography, light microscopy, mass spectrometry, biophysics, cell sorting, cell culture, high-performance computing, and electronic and mechanical workshops.
The LMB has a collaborative working culture and state-of-the-art building on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, a thriving ecosystem with research institutes, biotechnology, pharma, and hospitals. We have excellent public transport on site including the Cambridge South train station (a two-minute walk from the lab), cycle enclosures and on-site parking. We have a staff restaurant with roof terrace and access to a Campus nursery and sports and social facilities. You will be eligible to join our defined benefit pension scheme, a holiday entitlement of 40.5 days per annum (including bank holidays and privilege days) and a generous employee discount scheme. We are also committed to providing training and development opportunities including support towards role-related qualifications.
The LMB is a world-class research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is nine research councils, working together across all disciplines and sectors. More information can be found at www.ukri.org and https//mrclmb.ac.uk.
This role qualifies for endorsement by UKRI for a UK Global Talent Visa, for which the successful applicant is likely to be eligible to apply. Immigration costs (visa and health surcharge) can be reclaimed from UKRI after taking up the post (terms and conditions apply).
Applications should include a CV with a full publication list and a 3-page research proposal describing long-term goals.
