Assistant or Associated Professor in Radio Frequency Engineering

New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering (NMITE)

Shape the Future of RF Engineering Education

Are you an engineer or academic with expertise in Radio Frequency Engineering who wants to help shape the next generation of engineers?

At NMITE (New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering), we don’t just teach engineering: we live it. Our accelerated, studio-based approach replaces traditional lectures and closed-book exams with hands-on, challenge-led learning that connects engineering theory with professional practice.

We are preparing to launch a new postgraduate programme in Radio Frequency Engineering in Spring 2027, designed to address skills needs across communications, sensing, defence, aerospace and autonomous systems. This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we develop our RF Engineering capability and prepare to welcome our first postgraduate learners.

Based in Hereford, NMITE is a growing Higher Education provider with a vision for regional impact and global recognition. We are looking for academics who share our ambition to rethink engineering education and create meaningful connections between industry and learning.

What makes NMITE different?

At NMITE, we’re rethinking how engineering is taught. The NMITE Way puts practical, challenge-led learning at the heart of the student experience, helping learners develop the technical expertise, professional judgement and confidence to tackle real-world engineering problems.

  • Block delivery: Rather than juggling multiple modules and year groups simultaneously, our block-based approach allows you to focus on one module and one cohort of students at a time, creating an immersive and focused learning experience.
  • A “No-Lecture” zone: Our campuses are built around interactive learning studios and workshops, including The Factory at Blackfriars Campus and Project Workspace at Skylon Campus. Learning is collaborative, practical and hands-on.
  • Authentic assessment: Students demonstrate their learning through professional outputs such as reports, specifications, presentations, simulations and prototypes, rather than relying solely on traditional examinations.
  • Industry-connected learning: Real-world engineering challenges, industry partnerships and practical projects connect technical theory with professional practice.
  • Space to innovate: As a growing institution, NMITE offers the opportunity to shape curriculum, experiment with teaching approaches and contribute to the continued development of engineering education.

How You’ll Make an Impact

We are looking for an academic with a strong foundation in Radio Frequency Engineering who can contribute to high-quality teaching, curriculum development and student success.

  • Deliver excellent teaching: Design and deliver engaging, inclusive learning across RF Engineering and related modules, helping students develop technical confidence and professional judgement.
  • Develop the curriculum: Contribute to the development of our new postgraduate programme ahead of its planned Spring 2027 launch, creating learning materials and practical challenges across areas such as RF and microwave engineering, antennas, electromagnetics, radar, sensing and communications.
  • Connect with industry: Collaborate with industry partners to develop authentic projects, applied learning opportunities and relevant curriculum content.
  • Support student success: Mentor students, provide constructive feedback and contribute to project supervision and academic guidance.
  • Contribute to NMITE: Support academic quality, curriculum enhancement, student recruitment and the wider development of engineering education.

We welcome applications at either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. Assistant Professor appointments will focus on excellent teaching, student support and developing academic and professional standing. Associate Professor appointments will additionally require established subject expertise, a stronger track record of curriculum development and evidence of impact beyond individual teaching, including across the wider institution and professional community.

What You’ll Bring

  • A PhD or equivalent professional experience in RF Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Communications Engineering or a closely related discipline, with strong specialist knowledge of RF Engineering.
  • The ability to apply RF engineering principles to real-world systems and engineering challenges.
  • Experience of teaching, training, mentoring or supporting learning in higher education or a relevant professional environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • The ability to teach topics in digital RF communication systems including SDR (software-defined radio), DSP (digital signal processing), RF digital transmitter and receiver, signal intelligence, RF digital modulation and demodulation, RF security, antenna design, etc.
