Applications are invited for the post of Early Career Teaching Fellow and College Teaching Officer in Law commencing no later than 1 October 2027.
Peterhouse has a relatively small but vibrant and growing community of students, scholars and alumni/alumnae connected to law and legal research. The advertised post is designed for an early career researcher in law who has recently (within the last five years) completed a doctorate in law/legal studies and is intent on pursuing a career in university teaching and research. The post is a fixed-term appointment for a maximum of five years, which is intended to serve as a bridge to a more established or permanent appointment in Cambridge or elsewhere. The post is also designed to meet the College’s needs with respect to the teaching of law at undergraduate level, where numbers have been steadily increasing in recent years.
The successful candidate will be centrally involved in delivering undergraduate teaching for Peterhouse students studying for the Law Tripos. They will carry out a set amount of small group teaching (supervisions) during term, equivalent to on average six hours per week. Some of this teaching will be done for students from Peterhouse and the remainder for students from other colleges in Cambridge. They will assist in the direction of studies for Peterhouse students taking the Law Tripos and will take part in undergraduate admissions for the College.
The successful candidate will conduct their own programme of research and will also pursue opportunities to take part in research activities in the Faculty of Law and other relevant University Faculties or Departments.
The post is open to applicants with interests in any area of law. The College currently has particular teaching needs in Roman Law (Civil Law in Context), Criminal Law and EU Law. Preference may be given to a candidate who can offer to teach one or more of these subjects.
Candidates should have been awarded their Ph.D. not more than five years prior to the date of the advertisement.
The employment will be for a fixed-term duration of five years, and will not be renewable.
Closing date: 12 noon on Friday 20 November 2026.
Interviews: Thursday 3 December 2026.
