About the role:
The Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking new Assistant Professors (three positions) to help us transform chemical engineering research. We are open to applicants with research across all areas of chemical engineering or related disciplines. We welcome synergies with our recently launched initiatives in the Department or across Imperial (e.g. Sustainable Futures Lab, The Centre for Engineering Biology, The Sargent Centre for Process Systems Engineering, ATLAS & DigiBAT, School of Convergence Science). Our department’s current research priority areas include Net Zero, Sustainable manufacturing, Digitalisation, and Biotechnology.
You will have an established research profile with strong potential for impact. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research can influence the future of chemical engineering, aligns with emerging industry or creates translational opportunities in commercialisation. Experience of contributing to undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching would be advantageous.

You will be expected to develop and manage research projects, supervise and mentor research students and staff, publish in leading journals, present at international conferences, and engage with industry and other stakeholders to maximise the impact of their research.
What you would be doing:
You will be developing and leading an original programme of research in chemical engineering, addressing important scientific, engineering and societal challenges. Working independently and collaboratively across the Department, Faculty and College, you will secure external research funding, lead research projects, and build a thriving research group comprising postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate and undergraduate students.
The role includes supervising, training and mentoring research students and staff, including PhD candidates, publishing in leading international journals, presenting at major conferences, and engaging with industry, government and other stakeholders to maximise research impact.
You will contribute to teaching and assessment across our undergraduate MEng Chemical Engineering, MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering and doctoral programmes through lectures, seminars, tutorials, coursework and supervision. This will include delivering core chemical engineering lecture content, pastoral care of students through personal tutorials and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects.
