The University of Surrey is delighted to be launching its first International Branch Campus at GIFT City, Gujarat, India, welcoming its first cohort of students in July 2027. Our new campus will offer University of Surrey degrees in Business Management, Business Analytics and Data Science, giving students in India the opportunity to gain a Surrey qualification while studying in a dynamic international environment at the heart of India’s leading international financial services centre.
We are seeking a talented and motivated academic to join the founding academic team at GIFT City. This is a permanent, full-time role based at our new campus in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. As one of the first academic appointments to the campus, this is an exciting opportunity to join us at the very beginning and play an important role in shaping our academic culture, teaching excellence and student experience.
The role
Working closely with the Dean, you will help shape and deliver the campus’s initial undergraduate Business Management and postgraduate Business Analytics programmes. You will also work collaboratively with colleagues at Surrey Business School in Guildford to ensure that students at GIFT City experience the quality of education associated with the University of Surrey.
We are particularly interested in an applicant with expertise in areas including business analytics (predictive and prescriptive), operational research, data science and artificial intelligence. You should have a strong working knowledge of R and/or Python, while knowledge of data mining using SAS software would be an advantage. Previous teaching and pedagogical experience in the UK, Europe, the United States or other international settings would also be desirable.
A chance to help shape something new
As the campus develops, there will be significant opportunities to contribute beyond the classroom, including programme development, educational innovation, student support, industry engagement and the wider development of the University’s transnational education activity.
The University of Surrey sees its GIFT City campus as an important part of its commitment to contributing to the GIFT City and wider Indian innovation ecosystems. We want to equip our students with the skills and knowledge to succeed while developing strong relationships with businesses, universities and policymakers across India. This role will make an important contribution to that ambition, particularly through employability and business engagement.
The University of Surrey is an international university with a strong reputation for research, business engagement and innovative education. Our ambition is to bring those same high standards and student-centred approach to our new GIFT City campus.
We welcome applications from enthusiastic, collaborative and forward-thinking academics who are passionate about delivering excellent education and making a lasting impact. If you are excited by the prospect of helping to establish a new international campus and shaping it from its very first day, we would be pleased to receive your application.
How to apply
Please apply via the University website, submitting a CV and cover letter demonstrating your suitability for the role, including your relevant teaching experience, subject expertise, programme leadership experience and any experience of international collaboration or transnational education.
For informal enquiries about the role, please contact Prof. Abhijit Sengupta, Dean, University of Surrey GIFT City, at abhijit.sengupta@surrey.ac.uk.
The University of Surrey is committed to providing an inclusive environment that offers equal opportunities for all.
