The School delivers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate business programmes, underpinned by research-informed teaching, inclusive practice and a strong focus on employability. The Role

As an Academic Associate, you will combine full-time PhD study with a 0.5 FTE teaching role (18.5 hours per week) within York Business School.

The four-year fixed-term post includes a UK tuition fee scholarship and requires full-time doctoral study.

Teaching responsibilities will normally be limited to six contact hours per week across two days and may include seminars, workshops, tutorials, marking and related teaching activities.

Full training and support will be provided to help you develop your teaching practice and professional skills alongside your research.

Research Role

We invite applications for doctoral research exploring the role of founders and leaders in organisations at different stages of the organisational life cycle.

The project focuses on founder CEOs and their influence on organisational strategy, governance, entrepreneurship, HRM and sustainability. Founder-led organisations challenge traditional assumptions about the separation of ownership and control, offering opportunities to advance understanding of leadership across different stages of organisational development. We will also consider alternative but related approaches within this theme.

Successful proposals should demonstrate a clear theoretical contribution and interdisciplinary potential. Applicants should submit a proposal of no more than four pages (single-spaced, including references and appendices) outlining: (1) Introduction, (2) Research Questions and Main Argument, (3) Methodological Approach, and (4) Expected Contributions.

Applicants should develop a 1,500-word research proposal (not including references) as part of the application.

The research proposal will show us that you understand current thinking in your chosen topic and have the knowledge and some of the skills needed to start a large research project.
