This post is full-time (35 hours per week), and has funding available for up to 1 year in the first instance.
The University has an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate who will make a leading contribution to the UKRI-funded Land Use for Net Zero project “RESPECT” (PI - Professor Jill Robbie), as one of a team of PDRAs, based mainly at the University of Glasgow. The post will be in Work Package 3: Peatland Triage Tool. The position is based in Glasgow, under the supervision of Professor Adrian Bass and Professors Graham Ferrier and Jens Subke, (both at the University of Stirling).
This post will contribute to the development of a decision-support tool for landowners, land managers, farmers and crofters (collectively ‘landholders’) seeking to undertake peatland restoration to contribute to net zero, and prioritise areas for peatland restoration. The successful applicant will contribute to the design, development, and implementation of the Peatland Triage Tool (PTT), involving all the geospatial, database, AI, reasoning and decision-making capabilities. The role will involve working with large, highly diverse and multi-modal datasets (e.g., images, surveys, statistical and sensor data). The candidate will be expected to contribute to experimental design, evaluation using benchmark datasets, and the development of reproducible and scalable solutions. A flexible and creative approach to problem-solving is essential, as key datasets may span a range of domains including environmental monitoring, social science and agricultural systems.
The post also involves co-working across multiple disciplines including law & policy, social sciences, and arts & humanities. The postholder will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of research publications and research proposals as well as help manage and direct this complex and challenging project as opportunities allow.
Please contact Professor Graham Ferrier (gf25@stir.ac.uk) and/or Professor Jens-Arne Subke (jens-arne.subke@stir.ac.uk) for further information on this project and position.
All applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK or be eligible to obtain permission to work in the UK.
