About the role
We are seeking an ambitious and academically motivated Academic Clinical Lecturer or Clinical Research Fellow in Public Health to join the College of Life Sciences.
Working in partnership with the East Midlands Public Health Training Programme, this post provides an exciting opportunity to combine academic research and teaching with specialist public health training. You will spend approximately 50% of your time undertaking academic activities and 50% undertaking public health training, with flexibility to arrange research in dedicated blocks where appropriate.
You will develop a high-quality programme of public health research, with opportunities to publish in peer-reviewed journals, present your work nationally and internationally, establish collaborations and develop applications for external research funding. You will also contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including epidemiology and public health within the medical programme.
The post offers a supportive environment in which to develop the research, teaching and professional skills required for a successful career in academic public health
About you
You will be a highly motivated Public Health trainee at ST3 level or above with a strong academic track record and a clear commitment to developing a career in public health and research. You will bring knowledge of research methodologies, epidemiology and statistics, together with experience of working within the NHS or other Public Health Training Network settings
You will be able to demonstrate a coherent, high-quality and feasible research plan and hold, or be working towards, an appropriate higher degree such as an MPH, MSc, MD or PhD. Candidates seeking appointment as an Academic Clinical Lecturer will need an MD or PhD in a field related to Public Health, in addition to an MPH or MSc. Candidates who otherwise meet the criteria may be considered for appointment as a Clinical Research Fellow.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organisational abilities and the confidence to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience of research, peer-reviewed publications, teaching or assessment, and the use of statistical packages such as R, STATA or SPSS would be advantageous.
