About The Role
We are looking for an enthusiastic, student-centred French specialist to join Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting (MLTI) as a Teaching Fellow on a fixed-term, five-month contract at 0.8 FTE. This semester-long post is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to build their university teaching experience in a supportive and collegial department.
You will teach French language across a range of proficiency levels, together with translation and/or interpreting, to undergraduate and postgraduate students. You will set and mark assessments, give timely and constructive feedback, act as a Personal Tutor and contribute to open days and outreach. The role is focused entirely on teaching and the student experience, so there is no expectation of research beyond what supports your teaching.
MLTI is part of the School of Culture and Communication and is based at Singleton Campus, beside Singleton Park and a short walk from Swansea Bay. We bring language, culture, translation and interpreting together under one roof, teaching across our undergraduate degrees and our postgraduate programmes in translation and interpreting. We are a friendly, multilingual and international team who care about our students and about one another, and our small-group language teaching means you will get to know your students well.
If you are passionate about French and about helping students grow in confidence as linguists, translators and interpreters, we would love to hear from you.

Welsh Language Skills
The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
The University is a proud bilingual institution, our Welsh Language Strategy outlines our aspiration to promote the language and enable our staff to engage with the language as an additional workplace skill and as a gateway to new cultural and social opportunities. Applications are welcome in Welsh and will not be treated less favourably than those submitted in English. Welsh speakers have the right to an interview in Welsh.
