Hours: 14.6 hours per week (0.4 FTE), Thursdays and Saturdays
About the Role
You will join the retail team at Oxford University Museum of Natural History, home to internationally important collections and a welcoming destination for visitors. The Museum shop is an important part of the visitor experience, offering a growing range of distinctive products.
You will provide friendly, professional customer service, help maintain creative and attractive displays, replenish stock and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the shop. Working with the Shop Manager, you will follow cash-handling and till procedures, assist with stock pricing and coding, complete end-of-day cash reconciliation and contribute to annual stock-takes. Additional shifts may be available during busy school holidays, and some Bank Holiday working is required.
This is a permanent part-time post, working 14.6 hours per week. The anticipated working pattern is Thursdays and Saturdays. Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to access to Museum collections.
About You
You will have excellent customer service skills, a good general level of education or equivalent experience, and experience of retail and maintaining profitable trading. You will bring cash-handling experience, familiarity with computerised accounts and strong organisational and time-management skills. You will be a confident, flexible team player who can also work independently, respond to fluctuations in visitor numbers and take a creative approach to developing the Museum shop. Experience in a museum or gallery, an interest in natural history, Excel skills or a second language would be advantageous.
Diversity
Our staff and students come from all over the world, and we proudly promote a friendly and inclusive culture. Diversity is positively encouraged, through diverse groups and champions, as well as a number of family-friendly policies, such as the right to apply for flexible working and support for staff returning from periods of extended absence, for example, shared parental leave.
We are committed to ensuring that our recruitment processes are inclusive and accessible. If you require the job description or any other materials in an alternative format, or if you would like to request any adjustments to support you through the application or interview process, please contact the recruitment team at recruitment@glam.ox.ac.uk.
How to Apply
You will be required to upload your CV and a supporting statement as part of your online application. Your supporting statement should list each of the essential and desirable selection criteria, as listed in the job description, and explain how you meet each one. CVs alone will not be considered.
