The Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy in West Cambridge is keen to recruit a new X-ray Scientist to keep our well-used X-ray facilities running smoothly and efficiently to ensure continued use by members of the Department, others from across the university, and external users including those from industry.
Holding an appropriate PhD, the successful candidate will be experienced in running x-ray diffractometers, and particularly in powder diffraction using oriented samples (mostly thin films), and also small angle scattering. They will need to be comfortable with setting up equipment, as well as guiding experiments, and collecting and analysing data.
A high degree of precision and accuracy will be essential, as will good communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will read and write journal articles and write equipment proposals. Training of users will also be expected. Programming skills would be an asset.
