Research Associate / Fellow in Electrical Machines (2 posts)

Applications are invited for the above position to join the growing Power Electronics, Machines and Control (PEMC) Research Group at the University of Nottingham.  The PEMC group has undergone a significant period of growth and now has over 100 members, with 18 academics (including 7 full professors) and approximately 90 PhD students and post-doctoral research fellows.  The group has excellent facilities for experimental work including approximately 2500m2 of research space and a construction and testing capability up to 1MW.

The successful candidate will undertake research on electrical machine design and analysis with focus on high speed/high frequency operation. The successful candidate will also be supporting a number of research projects within the group and will be working closely with colleagues across technical disciplines. This post is in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering based on the University Park campus.

Candidates must have a Good (2.i) first degree (or equivalent) in electrical/electronic engineering or a related subject. A PhD or equivalent (or near completion) and research experience in the design or modelling of electrical machines, good working knowledge of electromagnetic FE software, familiarity with electrical machines’ control methodologies, insulation systems and preferably with practical experience in machine design and testing. A background in mechanical and thermal modelling is desirable.

It is also expected that the candidate will demonstrate high level communication and organisational skills and an aptitude for liaison with industrial partners.

This full-time, fixed-term post is available immediately and will be offered for a period of two years. This full-time post is available from January 2017 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 2 years.
