The Institute of Ismaili Studies

The Institute of Ismaili Studies (IIS) was established in 1977 with the object of promoting scholarship and learning of Muslim cultures and societies, historical as well as contemporary, and a better understanding of their relationship with other societies and faiths.

The IIS invites applications for the role of our Secondary Teacher Education Programme (STEP) Programme Leader. 

The post holder will take responsibility for all the activities associated with the STEP academic programme within the IIS and liaise closely with University College London, Institute of Education, (our partner institution), Ismaili religious education boards throughout the world and with other relevant institutions to continue to achieve high standards of academic excellence.  

With significant experience in the field of secondary teacher education along with experience of working in the classroom, you will have supervised cohorts of prospective or qualified teacher candidates and promoted and participated in pastoral care initiatives.  You will hold an excellent record as teachers’ supervisor and/or mentor at the graduate level, with a relevant degree and expertise in a relevant discipline within the field of education.  A sound understanding of the Ismaili religious education system and the IIS Secondary Curriculum is essential. You will also have strong communication skills in working with individuals at all levels in education, including the ability to motivate, lead and manage people, as well as experience of working with the Ismaili community.

A post graduate qualification in Education and a degree-level (or above) qualification in Islamic Studies or Humanities is essential.
