The University of Buckingham has a unique atmosphere, unlike that of any other higher educational institution. The Faculty of Education is the largest in the university and one of the largest in the UK.  We typically have 1300 students a year.  All our students work in schools.  Most are taught online but some QTS/PGCE courses come to a residential course during school half-terms three times a year.  The Faculty is based in a new building, the Vinson Building, on Hunter Street in Buckingham. 

The job

1 Academic manager of the Teacher Apprenticeship course, our largest course, which awards QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), and for which there are two cohorts – September and January.

Management of this course includes:

  • the formulation and management of the course curriculum and delivery days
  • organisation of speaker delivery and weekly letter communication to trainees, mentors and tutors
  • the training of trainees, mentors and tutors
  • alignment of course with ITT (Initial Teacher Training) criteria, ITTECF (Initial Teacher Training Early Career Framework) and Ofsted frameworks.
  • completion of compliance and inspection documents, which includes self-assessment report and quality improvement plans
  • the writing of the course handbooks, tutor and mentor guides
  • assisting Heads of Cohort with identifying and contacting cause for concern trainees
  • participant in the Trailblazers group which develops apprenticeship courses
  • participant in the internal Apprenticeship Oversights Group
  • ensuring the trainee learning platform (LASER) is ready
  • working with our operations staff who continually monitor individual trainee progress in regards to ESFA requirements like the recording of off the job hours and mandatory monthly engagement 

2 Assist with managing the schools and other organisations whose courses we accredit. The courses range from GCSE alternatives pathways, school diplomas, to staff CPD programme accreditation. With the Registrar, managing new proposals for collaborations or accreditations and managing existing partnerships with schools.

3 Assisting with the administration of the Assessment-Only course.
