The department of Operations is one of the largest European research groups on operations, with focal areas in Operations Research (OR), Operations Management (OM), and Industrial Engineering (IE). The department has over 30 scientific staff members and around 25 PhD and PD researchers. Its research publications cover the full range of journals for the field, including Management Science, Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, Transportation Research and Transportation Science. The department builds on a strong position in international research networks in organizing conferences, and participating in working groups and projects. Staff members are involved in successful and accredited bachelor and master programmes in (Econometrics and) Operations Research, Supply Chain Management, Technology Operations Management and Business Administration. They also take part in research master and PhD training at both the institutional and national level.

Methodological approaches range from (applied) OR to empirical (case studies, surveys).
The candidate is expected to strengthen the position of the Operations department. The candidate has the ability to conduct high quality, original research and publishes regularly in high-ranked international journals. Given the steady growth of our OR programmes and the mainly stochastic expertise of our current OR researchers, we particularly urge candidates with expertise in combinatorics/ routing/ network optimization to apply.
Time for research is allocated according to standardized faculty procedures, which guarantees initially 50% time for research during the tenure track period. Responsibilities include teaching in the bachelor and master programmes of the department. All MSc programmes are taught in English. He/she has to perform research in the area of Operations, initiate new research projects, participate in the coaching of PhD students, support renewal of the educational and research programmes of the department, and participate in committees on university and faculty level.
