Assistant HR Partner (Humanities & Social Sciences)

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate with good generalist HR knowledge to undertake a challenging role within a large HR department.

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is a leading Russell Group university, employing over 4,000 members of staff. In this role, you will be a key point of contact for the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences and the comprising eight academic Schools and will provide support in more complex HR work.

You will build strong working relationships with a range of academic and non-academic staff at all levels within your client group and will use your expert knowledge and experience to provide day-to-day advice and guidance for people management activities including resourcing, employee relations and reward.

You will be expected to develop a good understanding of the faculty and schools’ strategies to support them with HR matters and project work. You will need to show resilience and balance the demands of schools with the needs of QMUL overall and HR best practice.

You will be educated to degree level or have the equivalent experience, and will have previously worked in a human resources department, ideally in a Higher Education setting or within a medium-sized, complex, unionised environment. You must be proactive in finding solutions to problems or new developments working in a collaborative manner.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, including the ability to effectively manage customer expectations and influence and coach managers to build strong, credible and trusted relationships with the client group and colleagues.

This post is a full time and fixed term for 12-14 months. The post is available from mid-May with a start date no later than 01 July 2017.

This post is available as a result of maternity leave and it is expected that the successful candidate will hold it for the full period. However, should the post-holder on maternity leave exercise her right to return to work earlier, then this appointment will be terminated, subject to a notice period of one month.

Starting salary will be in the range £36,064 to £42,431 per annum inclusive of London Allowance dependent on experience. Benefits include 30 days annual leave pro rata and a defined benefit pension scheme. Consideration will be given to applicants wishing to work on a part time basis.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
