The Post

The core function of the post is to lead and further develop a body of research of international standing, in line with the Unit’s remit to undertake applied research to improve the health and wellbeing of patients and populations in areas directly relevant to the practice of NMAHPs. The candidate will be required to demonstrate they have a strong track record in leading health research that is directly relevant to NMAHP practice and for which they have acquired significant research funding. They must have a track record of academic publication in prestigious journals. They must also be able to demonstrate that they have the ability to work constructively with policy makers, senior NHS and HEI colleagues and a range of other stakeholders, including patients and the public.

Description of Duties

The post will involve working across Scotland, internationally and with staff at the Unit’s two bases in the University of Stirling and at Glasgow Caledonian University to:

  • Lead and conduct high quality research relevant to the Unit’s remit, to further enhance the scientific quality of the Unit’s work.
  • Support the Unit Director and Deputy Directors as appropriate.
  • Make a significant contribution to NMAHP research capacity building through the supervision of post graduate research- and/or professional-doctorate students and the mentoring of students and staff.
  • Work with NMAHP leaders across Scotland to develop a translational NMAHP research agenda.
  • Contribute to the preparation of the Unit’s quinquennial scientific review.
  • Lead and engage with the relevant international research communities.
  • Serve on and/or Chair Unit/Faculty/ University Committees and Working Groups as required.
