To further strengthen our world-leading research we are investing to develop multidisciplinary research themes and are seeking to appoint 4 outstanding post-doctoral researchers that can engage with the following key global challenge areas:

  • Sustainable health and well being
  • Sustainable livelihoods supported by strong foundations for inclusive economic growth and innovation
  • Resilience and action on short-term environmental shocks and long term environmental change
  • Sustainable cities
  • Forced displacement and refugee crises
  • Justice and humanitarian action
  • Gender inequalites

The appointed candidates will work in any of the key disciplines of the Faculty of Arts, Design and Social Sciences and will be able to contribute to Northumbria’s Centre for International Development or any of our multidisciplinary research themes in the Humanities; Critically Aware Design Innovation; and Environmental and Global Justice. The successful applicants will be located in a department according to disciplinary expertise but will be expected to work across disciplines on challenge led research.

You will hold a PhD or equivalent, and will already be developing a publication track record of exceptional promise. It is essential that you have excellent written and verbal communication skills; some relevant teaching experience; the ability to work effectively with colleagues; and the potential to attract external funding to support the future development of your research. Although the role will allow the successful candidate to concentrate on developing their personal research agenda as well as collaborative projects, you should be prepared to take on a small amount of teaching and administration, as required within a vibrant department and Faculty.

The Fellowship will be for three years in the first instance with the expectation of progression to a permanent academic position at the end of the Fellowship subject to satisfactory progress.
