Research Fellow in Chemical Biology/Medicinal Chemistry

University of Sussex - School of Life Sciences

We wish to appoint a Research Fellow in Chemical Biology/Medicinal Chemistry on a project funded by EPSRC EP/P026990/1 at Sussex, which carries on from work published in Chem. Sci. 2016, 7, 2322, on designing inhibitors of a bromodomain called PHIP 2 , which is overexpressed in melanoma. The project involves the synthesis of libraries of mainly fragment molecules for biological evaluation and x-ray structural studies by our collaborators Profs F. von Delft, P. Brennan, Diamond/SGC and later with Dr de Semir California for tests in melanoma-derived cells.  Much of the chemistry will involve C-H activation and Pd catalysis see Adv. Synth. Catal. 2016, 358, 98 . Candidates with a PhD in medicinal chemistry or chemical biology are encouraged to apply. For further details on the Spencer group, see

The School of Life Sciences is at the forefront of research in the biological sciences in the UK, coming in the top 10 in the REF 2014.
